The Pet Sematary Remake Is Casting, Has Landed Its Female Lead
With less than a year to go until Kevin Klsch and Dennis Widmyer's Pet Sematary remake finally debuts in theaters, new details have started to emerge about the film's cast. The Crown's John Lithgow and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Jason Clarke both recently joined the film, and a new actor has officially joined the ensemble as well. Specifically, we have formally learned that Alien: Covenant actress Amy Seimetz has signed onto the project as its female lead.
Per the Deadline report revealing Amy Seimetz's involvement in Pet Sematary, the Alien: Covenant actress will portray the mother of a child who uncovers the mysterious animal graveyard behind their house. Her character's name is listed as Rachel Creed, and she will be the wife of Jason Clarke's Louis Creed. The role of Rachel Creed was originally played by Denise Crosby in the 1989 version of Pet Sematary, so we will have to wait and see how Amy Seimetz sets her incarnation of the character apart from what we have seen before.
Amy Seimetz has made some interesting choices in the horror genre over the course of her acting career. In addition to her role in Alien: Covenant, she also appeared in the 2011 cult hit, You're Next. Let's just hope that things go better for her in Pet Sematary than they did for her other horror characters, as she has a nasty habit of dying some pretty horrible demises when she enters this particular genre.
Of course, as previously mentioned, the casting of Amy Seimetz marks her as the third principal actor to join the Pet Sematary ensemble. The film has assembled a fairly stacked cast so far, with Amy Seimetz signing on alongside Jason Clarke and John Lithgow (all of whom have experience in the horror/thriller genre to varying degrees) to bring the highly-anticipated Stephen King adaptation to life.
It's not surprising to see the enthusiasm for Pet Sematary start to rise among many fans of the horror genre, particularly when we consider the hot streak that Stephen King adaptations have been on lately. Andy Muschietti's IT made box office history when it debuted last year, and IT: Chapter 2 has handily gone on to become one of the horror genre's most highly-anticipated projects. Moreover, Gerald's Game was a huge critical success of Netflix, showing that scary stories that don't feature Pennywise the Dancing Clown can still generate a lot of buzz for King. Pet Sematary already comes with a built-in following because of the 1989 cult classic and the original book, so all eyes are on this film to potentially do the same.
Pet Sematary is one of many upcoming horror movies to watch out for, and we will bring you all of the biggest updates related to the long-awaited remake as more information surfaces. The Stephen King adaptation will hit theaters on April 5, 2019!
