First Look At Michael Myers' Mask In The New Halloween Movie
It's an exciting time for the horror genre. Rather than stale slashers and boring franchises, the genre has been challenging things by crafting new and exciting stories and making plenty of money in the process.. Many of the best modern horror movies have come to us from Blumhouse Productions, including movies like Get Out, Creep, and Hush. Now Blumhouse is turning its head to one of the most classic horror franchises ever: Halloween. A new sequel is set to arrive this coming holiday, and we've just gotten our first look at Michael Myers' mask, courtesy of its poster. Much like the killer and Laurie Strode, the mask has definitely aged.
Does anybody else have chills? It looks like the infamous Halloween mask is going to be looking quite different in the upcoming sequel. Considering everything we've heard about the new Halloween, this makes complete sense.
While Blumhouse's Halloween will be the 11th installment in the franchise, it's totally changing up the narrative and timeline. Every single sequel will be ignored, making the new Halloween a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 classic. As such, writers Danny McBride and David Gordon Green have the ability to take some risks and make changes to both Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode and her nemesis.
Fans of Halloween have been able to see a few glimpses of Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode, with her shoulder length grey hair and general sense of hardness. But this is the first time that we've seen the face of Michael Myers since the film was announced. While Laurie has aged 40 years since surviving her attack in the first film, the villain's mask has done the same. You can see the way its folded and cracked through the decades, which adds a new sense of terror to its appearance. Laurie has no doubt been thinking about that face all these years, and it should be interesting to see what happens when they finally meet again.
Hardcore fans of the Halloween franchise might be surprised by this new mask, as it's not like anything from the original franchise. The mask changed and sometimes even emoted as new sequels were released, but it was always in good shape-- even in H20 and Resurrection.
Indeed, Michael's new mask actually bares the most resemblance to the Rob Zombie Halloween movies. Those aren't necessarily beloved by the the fandom, as Zombie made the property far more gory and nasty than ever before. As such, there is the possibility that some cinephiles will take umbrage in the appearance of the mask in this year's Halloween. Let's just hope that they ultimately reserve judgement for after it actually arrives.
