Karen Gillan Wants To Be In A Scream Movie, And She Knows Who She Would Play
Actress Karen Gillan is having a pretty awesome few years. The Scottish actress has made serious waves as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and is set to appear in the Russo Brothers' highly anticipated megamovie Avengers: Infinity War. She also recently appeared in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which ended up being a massively successful movie that will no doubt spawn another sequel. While Gillan certainly seems to be enjoying the ride, there are plenty of other projects and reboots that she'd like to be apart of. When recently asked about remaking another classic 90s movie, Gillan expressed her love for the Scream franchise, saying:
I think probably remaking Scream--to play the killer in Scream! I just have this idea that it would be so funny to have like, a really Scottish girl on the end of the phone. Like, 'What's your favorite scary movie?'
It looks like Karen Gillan is ready to travel to Woodsboro, and possibly even wear Ghostface's mask herself. It's been quite a few years since a new Scream came out, so it may be the perfect time. Now someone get Neve Campbell on the phone.
Due to the trend of nostalgia in entertainment, there are an endless supply of reboots and long awaited sequels being produced. And with the horror genre experiencing a bit of a renaissance at the moment, now might be the perfect time to bring Ghostface back to the pop culture lexicon. Slashers haven't really been the focus of horror movies lately, with the exception being Happy Death Day. And with the Halloween franchise returning with a new sequel this October, Scream could easily ride that momentum into the theaters.
Karen Gillan's comments to Gamespot are also sure to excite the hardcore Scream fans out there, who have been hoping for a new sequel since Scream 4 hit theaters in 2011. While a modest box office success, the fourth film was a vast improvement over the somewhat dismal threequel, and brought a fantastic cast of newcomers to join the trio of original stars. Many were hoping that another film would soon be on the way, although it never ended up coming to fruition. In particular, fans have been hoping for the return of Hayden Panettiere's Kirby, who was never shown actually dying during the film's third act.
The possibility of slashers like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer (which Karen Gillan is also a fan of) returning will no doubt depend on how Blumhouse's Halloween performs this season. But with Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode with a brand new story and timeline, the sequel will be able to make bold narrative choices.
